In an ambitious move to boost connectivity and relieve congestion, the JP Ganga Path in Bihar is set for a major westward expansion. Stretching 36.65 kilometres from Digha to Koilwar through Sherpur, this expansion aims to transform the region's travel dynamics.
The Details of the Expansion
This significant development includes a complex blend of infrastructure elements. A notable feature is the 12.5-kilometre elevated roadway extending from Digha to Sherpur. Beyond this, there will be a 23-kilometre stretch that combines elevated sections with a dam-side route, ensuring seamless transit even during high water levels.
The project addresses the chronic issue of travel slowdowns by bypassing typically crowded routes. Travelers will find considerably reduced journey times between Patna and the important regional cities of Ara, Buxar, Begusarai, and Mokama. The introduction of a six-lane bridge over the Sone River at Koilwar and the unveiling of a new four-lane road connecting Didarganj to Athmalgola signify major advancements in the region's transportation framework.

A Vision for Regional Development
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar's infrastructure plans reflect a keen focus on fostering regional connectivity. This phase of the JP Ganga Path project, with an estimated cost of Rs 6,689.7 crore, represents a significant slice of this vision. Tenders for this major phase are expected to be announced soon, signifying a rapid progression from planning to action.
Furthermore, an eastern expansion involves the NH-31's widening by 10 metres up to Mokama, an initiative demanding an investment of Rs 1,121.49 crore. Such enhancements are not only expected to streamline passenger traffic but also improve the logistical flow of goods across Bihar, notably alleviating the notorious congestion in and around Patna.
This expansive infrastructure endeavor marks a fresh chapter in Bihar’s commitment to modernization and connectivity, promising enhanced accessibility and economic growth driven by reduced travel times and improved roadway efficiency. For commuters and businesses alike, the completion of the JP Ganga Path's new phase stands as a pivotal point in Bihar's forward-looking transportation landscape.
