In an unexpected turn of events, the re-release of the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam, featuring actors Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has taken the Indian box office by storm. Back in 2016, this romantic drama didn’t exactly set cash registers ringing, closing its theatrical run at ₹8 crore. Fast forward to 2025, and just three days into its re-launch, it has already outstripped its original earnings.

Impressive Opening Weekend

The movie opened to a solid start with ₹4.25 crore on Friday, and the momentum continued on Saturday with an additional ₹5.25 crore. By Sunday, it climbed another ₹6 crore, making an opening weekend total of ₹15.50 crore. That’s a whopping 170% boost compared to its first release.

Stiff Competition—and Victory

Not only did Sanam Teri Kasam draw in audiences, but it also outperformed new films like *Loveyapa*, featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, and *Badass Ravi Kumar*, starring big names like Himesh Reshammiya and Prabhudeva. It even edged past the ticket sales for older re-releases like *Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani* and other comedy and action flicks hitting the screens this year.

Several factors aided this remarkable success. First, the timing couldn’t be better, aligning with Valentine’s Day, when audiences naturally lean toward romantic stories. Pricing strategies played a role too; tickets priced at ₹99 tempted viewers, making the film an affordable outing for couples and families alike. The film’s growing popularity over the years turned it into a cult classic, drawing more people back to theaters.

This phenomenon isn’t isolated. We've seen movies like *Laila Majnu* and *Tumbbad* enjoy similar successes with their re-launches. Interestingly, even with stiff competition from the re-release of the Hollywood blockbuster *Interstellar*, which collected ₹9 crore over the weekend, *Sanam Teri Kasam* led the Bollywood releases by a fair margin.

So, what’s next? This film isn’t resting on its laurels. It’s set for a seven-day run and is predicted to cross the ₹20 crore mark by the end of it. Yet, it will have to hold its ground against upcoming challengers like *Chhaava* with Vicky Kaushal and the anticipated *Captain America: Brave New World*.
